Honouring West Australians

Text Size a a a Print Print this page

The number of Australians who can receive an Order of Australia in the General Division is set by the Constitution of the Order.

In any calendar year no more than 25 awards can be made at AC (Companion in the Order) level, 100 at AO (Officer in the Order) level, and 225 at AM (Member in the Order) level. There is no limit to the number of OAMs (Medal of the Order) awarded, however there are on average about 450 per year.

Since the introduction of the Australian Honours System, many Australians have been honoured with an Order of Australia Award. However, up until now, Western Australia has been underrepresented in the honours list, mainly due to the number of quality nominations being lodged by Western Australians.

We have many worthy citizens in our State and all Western Australians need to be aware of the achievements of their fellows and to nominate those who contribute so much to the rich fabric of our society.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.
